Edgar Brothers parts company with ammunition maker Nobel Sport Italia after five years

Cheshire-based distributor Edgar Brothers has decided to part company with Italian ammunition maker Nobel Sports Italia (NSI) after five years.

The UK's largest importer of firearms and ammunition has been distributing the full range of NSI's shotgun cartridges to gun shops throughout the UK since December 2013 but has decided to end the partnership following an internal review.

Ian Gordon, Edgar Brothers new managing director, described it as an amicable split and said the company has no plans to import shotgun cartridges from any other supplier.

He explained: "We have enjoyed a very productive partnership with NSI over the past five years. However, after conducting a review of the partnership it has become apparent that NSI is no longer able to compete on price with the UK-made brands going forward. It's a very competitive market in the UK with very little margin in it. "

"Given the number of high-quality local manufacturers and the extra transport costs we have had to build in, it doesn't make sense for us to import cartridges. It's an amicable split. NSI understand our position and we wish them every success for the future."

Asked if ongoing uncertainty over Brexit had influenced the decision, Mr Gordon replied: "It was definitely a consideration. Potentially, its an added complication in the supply chain to be wary of. Whatever happens, it would not make us more competitive. Ultimately, we just couldn't compete, but we don't really want to compete with UK manufacturers anyway. We want to see British manufacturers flourish."
